How do I file for permanent residency?
My husband filed my I485. He didn't show up at the interview because he is abusive to me and controlling. What do I do?

If your husband's action rise to the level of abuse, you can file a self-petition. You will have to present evidence including that you lived together.

I suggest you file a VAWA (Violence against Women Act) Petition (Form I-360). To establish this petition you will need to show proof of bona fide marriage to US citizen or LPR. Abuse, police reports, photos, affidavits, letter from psychologist, etc. And good moral character very complicated process. Best to hire an attorney.

If your husband was abusive to you and he is a citizen or lawful permanent resident, there is a process by which you can self petition for permanent residence. You will have to prove the abuse and prove that you have suffered as a result of the abuse. If the petition is approved, you are placed in the same position you would have been in had your husband continued with the process on your behalf.
